Smead Hanging Box Bottom File Folder - 1" Expansion, Legal Size, Standard Green (25-Pack) - Perfect for Office Organization, Document Storage & Filing Systems

These folders seem to be sturdy and expand as advertised to hold thicker items. However, I was disappointed when, out of the box, I could see the glue holding down the fold-over flaps of several of the metal hangers had failed, resulting in the flaps sticking out into the folder when hung. The glue holding the metal hanger itself in place was still holding, so the folders were still usable, though the flap sticking out gets in the way of getting at the contents. Securing the fold-over flap is not just a cosmetic nicety, but is a second defense against the time that glue on the metal hanger itself may fail (it often does over time), and some manufacturers of hanging folders don't seem to even bother to apply glue to the hanger, relying wholly upon the paper flap to hold the hanger in place. Anyone who has dealt with hanging folders much will recognize this as an issue. In this case, a secure flap will keep the folder functional if and when the hanger glue eventually fails. In each case, I could see where a very thin strip of glue had been applied, so I applied some white glue on the same area, and am attempting to glue them all back together. I might have returned the product instead of repair the 4-5 folders that had the problem, but repairing the problem folders was less hassle than returning and waiting for a resupply, which may have shown the same issue. I expect Smead produces a zillion of these folders, but it is disappointing to have to repair a brand new product out of the box, and calls into question Smead's QC, as the problem was obvious as soon as I opened the box and examined the folders.What a great deal! The package arrived on time and in good shape. After opening it, the box for the folders was torn up a bit, but all of the folders were in perfect shape. Instead of paying full price, I opted for a "Used" option. Saved me about $20. Hooray! The folders are heavy duty and have metal hangers... much better than plastic. They have a much solid bottom to hold thick documents easily. They are the traditional army green, not so pretty, but the quality is great.Please note, I bought this USED, much at 1/3rd the original price, so this review is for the item I got in used condition. The hanging folders required a time-consuming repair - I used tape to stabilize the metal bar on each side of each of the 25 folders. Without this repair, they would have been worthless/unusable. However, once I did that, they are great. If I had purchased them at full price, brand new, and they did not fall apart the way these used ones did, I'd have been able to give 5 stars. The fact that they came "falling apart" as they did, makes me wonder if new ones is would have ended up this way after some (?) time. In any case, they are very effective for storing thick files, keeping my file drawers neat and organized.Nice width for extra wide filesThese file folders never last forever but if I don't over stuff them they'll last a long time. 2" file folders don't work as well since they are made the same and the extra weight just leads to ripping.These are great I could not find at the local office supply store should have started at Amazon first.
